An environmental organization on Tuesday decried Pennsylvania's status as a leading producer of global warming pollution and called on U.S. Sens. Bob Casey and Pat Toomey to support limits on carbon emissions from power plants.
In releasing a report titled, "America's Dirtiest Power Plants," PennEnvironment Research & Policy Center said it showed Pennsylvania ranks third among all states in both total carbon dioxide emissions and the percentage of emissions that come from power plants.
Elowyn Corby, the group's climate change and clean energy associate, said scientists predict extreme weather events will be more frequent and severe "unless we act now to cut the carbon pollution that is fueling the problem."
"Here in Pennsylvania, talking about the weather is not small talk anymore," Ms. Corby said at news conference on the sidewalk outside Mr. Casey's local office on Lackawanna Avenue.
