PennEnvironment and PennEnvironment Reasearch and Policy Center has called for a ban on fracking, to protect our health, environment and communities. In 2016, you helped us continue to shine a spotlight on the threats posed by fracking and the worst actors in the fracking industry and made headway to protect our environment when positive action seemed so hard to come by.

Congressmen Evans, Boyle receive Environmental Leadership Award

Philadelphia-- The state’s leading citizen-based environmental group presented Congressmen Brendan Boyle and Dwight Evans awards for their environmental leadership in Congress in 2017.  The award is being given in conjunction with the release of PennEnvironment’s annual federal scorecard evaluating how the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation voted on legislation supporting clean air, clean water and other critical environmental protections.

Federal regulators reject Rick Perry proposal to bail out coal and nuclear plants

Federal regulators have rejected a proposal from Energy Secretary Rick Perry to subsidize unnecessary and aging coal and nuclear power plants at the expense of cleaner, more affordable energy options. The proposed rule was a not-so-thinly veiled effort to prop up dying fossil fuels and undermine modern, clean, renewable energy.

Proposed Pollution Limits Are A Major Step Backwards for Public Health

PITTSBURGH- Residents from Brackenridge and surrounding communities were joined by advocates from PennEnvironment, Group Against Smog and Pollution, the Environmental Integrity Project, Clean Air Council, and others at a public hearing to speak out against Allegheny County Health Department’s (ACHD) second draft of a permit that would allow a ATI’s Brackenridge facility to emit far more pollution than it currently reports emitting.
