Philly moves forward with massive climate pollution project

The science is clear: If we’re going to avoid the worst effects of climate change and leave a healthy and safe planet for future generations, we need to transition off of dirty fossil fuels and onto clean renewable energy sources by 2050.

On Feb. 26, Philadelphia City Council and Mayor Jim Kenney held a hearing on a massive fossil fuel project that will make it harder to address climate change and for the city to meet its commitment to help solve global warming. The proposal moving through City Council would approve a new gas plant to be built in South Philadelphia that will churn out over 1 billion gallons of fossil fuels over the next 25 years alone.

PennEnvironment has been working tirelessly to try and stop this short-sighted proposal. We’ve been garnering citywide media coverage, mobilizing our activist network in the city and lobbying members of City Council to oppose this project.
