West Chester University is taking immense steps in the direction of not
only a greener campus, but also a great example for a 21st- century
campus. As expansion on West Chester University's campus begins, their
reliance on dirty and dangerous sources of energy is shrinking thanks
to 47 new geothermal wells ("WCU Implementing Geothermal Wells in New
Dorms," Sept. 21).
These geothermal wells provide a clean,
renewable energy resource that will help to make significant cuts in
reducing global- warming pollution. But to see geothermal energy and
other clean energy resources significantly expand, leadership from
Congress is critical. Specifically, we need to be increasing the amount
of government subsidies going to these clean energy solutions, and
mandating that utilities generate more of their electricity from clean
energy sources as well.
Local congressmen Jim Gerlach and Joe
Sestak can aid in the pursuit to stop global warming and help the turn
the country in a green direction by playing leadership roles in this
effort for a new clean energy future.
