What's New
In August, PennEnvironment's Nathan Willcox was appointed by legislators to serve on Pennsylvania's new Climate Change Advisory Committee. The Committee, made up of roughly 20 representatives from the government, business, academic and environmental communities, will work over the next 15 months to assist the state in developing a climate change action plan for Pennsylvania to help cut our pollution levels. Given the urgency of the issue, Nathan will work to ensure that the Committee moves as quickly as possible to draft an action plan that helps accomplish what the science says is necessary to avoid the worst effects of global warming. Be sure to visit our website often to see updates on the Committee's progress.
How You Can Help
Gov. Rendell and state leaders are drafting a state-level global warming plan, and we want to demonstrate public support for an ambitious plan that achieves the pollution reductions scientists say are necessary. Send an email to Gov. Rendell today to let him know you support a strong global warming plan.
Brief Summary
Global warming is the most pressing environmental problem we face today, and the world’s scientists have made it clear that global warming pollution is causing the problem. In order to avoid the worst impacts of global warming, we need to find ways to significantly reduce the levels of global warming pollution being created by our cars, trucks, factories and power plants. And since Pennsylvania creates more global warming pollution than every state besides Texas and California, we have to do our part to solve this global problem.
PennEnvironment is working at the state and national level to cut global warming pollution from our cars, trucks and coal-fired power plants. Specifically, we’re working to cut global warming pollution by 20% by 2020 and 80% by 2050—the reductions scientists say are necessary to avoid the worst consequences of global warming. And we know we can achieve these reductions by building more fuel-efficient cars, shifting to clean, renewable energy and alternative fuels, and using energy efficiency and conservation to reduce our overall energy use.
